Organization for Rural Community Development (ORCD) Bangladesh is a non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit organization founded in 2012 by Dr. Fakir M. Amirul Islam, with a vision to empower rural communities through sustainable, inclusive development.

ORCD operates based on four foundational principles:

    •    Income Generation

Over the years, ORCD has evolved into a multi-sectoral development platform that bridges the gap between underserved rural populations and essential services. With a grassroots-driven approach, ORCD continues to engage local communities, train health workers, support students, plant trees, and promote entrepreneurship—all while collaborating with both national and international partners.

🩺 Health Services

Health remains ORCD’s primary operational focus. Through community-based screening camps, diabetic retinopathy detection, school vision programs, and referrals to partner hospitals, ORCD has built a strong presence in optometry, non-communicable disease prevention, and health education. Free health camps are regularly organized in villages and schools, with services like blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, vision screening, and follow-ups.

🎓 Education

ORCD believes that real change begins with knowledge. To that end, it established the ORCD Business Management Institute, a vocational education center aiming to develop youth skills and entrepreneurial mindset in rural communities. ORCD also trains volunteers, students, and health professionals as health ambassadors to carry forward awareness and action.

ORCD is committed to environmental sustainability. Through tree plantation drives, awareness campaigns, and school-based eco-programs, ORCD promotes environmental responsibility at the community level. These initiatives are integrated with its health and education programs to support a cleaner, greener Bangladesh.

ORCD supports skill development, micro-entrepreneurship, and women’s economic empowerment through various community-led initiatives. By offering training, mentorship, and linkage to resources, ORCD helps individuals generate sustainable income and improve their quality of life.
